Top Features of New UBUNTU LTS 20.04 | Ubuntu Review

Here we see the top features of open to 20.04 LTS Which is the long term supported version of Ubuntu released in 2020.

The latest Ubuntu LTS 20.04 long term supported version comes with Gnome 3.6 and Linux kernel 5.4

If you are shifting from Ubuntu 19.10 you may not see much visual improvements, but if you are coming from 18.04 LTS then definitely there are a lot of visual changes. Ubuntu 20.04 comes with the new Gnome 3.36 which is much faster and lighter. The new Shell version has added “do not disturb button” so that user can disable all the notifications when he doesn’t want to get distracted. The whole Gnome environment is much faster compared to the previous versions. Now you can group your applications just by dragging and dropping one over another The alert dialogue is also modified and is more visually appealing.

Shifting between windows is also has also become pretty smooth and fast. The hot corners remains the same and pretty. The lock screen also has been changed and now you can see the password while typing. Lock screen has a central blur which is more beautiful.

The latest version of Ubuntu released in 2020 which is the Ubuntu LTS 20.04 comes with Yaru dark theme as default. This LTS version comes with much awaited Dark theme. The default Yaru theme can be selected from the appearance section in the launcher.

The new Ubuntu 20.04 LTS ships with the latest Karnal 5.4, the boot time has increased and system opens up-much quicker. The new kernel natively supports exFAT file system. The new kernel also supports for lock down mode for enterprises. Developers have also made support for AMD Radeon graphics and newer Intel chipsets.

Ubuntu LTS 20.04 comes with App Store which is called “snap store” where are you can find thousands of applications and install directly from it. If you want to install a particular package directly the aptitude package manager remains the team. Snap store also allows the user to choose the version of the application. This enables the user to install beta versions or disabled versions of the application. Applications can also be installed using terminal commands in the old fashion.

The boot logo is clean as always and you can see some visual tweaks. Some superb wallpapers have been added in the new Ubuntu 20.04 and you can feel the difference in high definition screens.

This latest version of Ubuntu has stopped support for Python 2 and it comes with Python 3. It also comes with support for Oracle’s ZFS file system and it is the first major Linux distribution to do the same. This file system is an experimental stage as Ubuntu says while installing. There is a major advantage of this ZFS file system as it keeps the “snapshots” which are kind of backups taken every minute immediately after installing any new packages. In times of package errors it is easy to go back to the previous system status in no time by choosing the earlier “snapshot”. This is pretty useful but at the same time it may affect the overall performance of the system. You can see overall updated packages in the new build. The email applications like Firefox Thunderbird etc. also have been updated to the latest version.
Other minor new features include Gnome extensions manager and WireGuard VPN  with new cryptographic features. The new LTS version gives support for up to 5 years.

The minimum system requirements to install Ubuntu 20.04 LTS are
·      2 GHz dual core processor
·      4GB system memory
·      25GB hard disk/SSD space

Peppermint OS Three released, new features and download

--> Peppermint OS Three has been released, a major new version of the project's lightweight desktop Linux distribution based on Lubuntu: "We are proud to announce the release of Peppermint OS Three in both 32-bit and 64-bit builds. This version is based on Lubuntu 12.04 and, as always, uses some features from the ever-awesome Linux Mint. Here's a quick overview of some of the details associated with this release: the Chromium stable repository is now enabled by default; a very light theme and default artwork; fewer default web applications in the menu as we feel that we'd rather not clog everything up by default; ships with GWoffice by default - this is a desktop Google Docs client that is lightweight and runs completely independent of Chromium; GIMP 2.8 is in the Peppermint repository; Linux Mint's update manager...." "Ubuntu" is an ancient African word, meaning "humanity to others".Ubuntu developers spread this message to the tech world.Ubuntu is sponsored by Canonical PVT Ltd.The curremt version of Ubuntu is 12.04 called as Precise pangolin.Kubuntu is nothing but Ubuntu core with KDE interface. So there is nothing much difference in the architecture but the look and feel are different.
Ubuntu 12.04 uses Ubuntu's own Unity interface while Kubuntu uses KDE 4.8 version as the default desktop inerface.KDE environment has improved a lot after thousands of bug fixing. It is graphically more attractive to the users especially who are coming from the Windows or OS X platform.Unity also has improved a lot but it has faded after the release of Gnome 3 since many of the Ubuntu users started using Ubuntu with gnome 3.Lubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin uses the ultra fast LXDE desktop environment.LXDE is a newbie in the Linux but it has become popular due to its simplicity and speed.LXDE enviroment is the fastest one among the others and it is very simple and looks good.
Xubuntu 12.04 is based on XFCE desktop environment and it is faster than Gnome 3, Unity and KDE 4.8 .Xubuntu doesn't look great but it is worth for the speed it gives.Lets take a look at the features all these Ubuntu 12.04 variants.
New features of Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin

Lubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin
website http://lubuntu.net
Lightest and fastest among all the Ubuntu sisters. Unfortunately, it is not an LTS, as it has only 18 months of support, just like a regular release. If you have an old computer with low specs, Lubuntu is the perfect option for you. It is rich in pre-loaded softwares and you can install what-ever softwares you like from the Ubuntu repository.

Xubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin
website http://xubuntu.org
It is nothing but Ubuntu core based on extremely light XFCE desktop and super fast. Those who have low RAM old systems, Xubuntu is for them. Also, for those who hate heavy interfaces likeUnity,KDE or Gnome. It comes with Adobe Flash & GIMP pre-installed, which is a good idea by the Xubuntu developers. I installed Libreoffice along with Abiword and Gnumeric as Libreoffice offers more functionality. Repository wise no worry - all the Ubuntu softwares are available all of these Ubuntu siblings.

Conclusion

Who's the winner among the different Ubuntus?
It is difficult to say since it depends on your system, needs etc. If you have an old system with low specifications then Lubuntu or Xubuntu can be a better choice.

If you have a modern computer with average specs, Ubuntu and Kubuntu would be the preferred distro. If you like eye-candies like windows or OSX then Kubuntu will be a better choice.I feel the same with Gnome 3 experience on Ubuntu. If you are a beginner and do not want lot of customization and all definitely you can go for Ubuntu.
