Best linux distro for web Servers | Best linux distros

Study Linux Commands,Editors and Shell Programming with our recommended guides..Now at cheap price

Which is the best linux distro for web Server?

If you are planning  for a small business server or simply host your own website at home, then it is best to use Linux as your operating system. Linux servers are extremely reliable and rarely crashes so there's less downtime.

A large proportion of web servers uses  Linux as their platform, but we don't have any data that could tell which among the Linux distributions are widely used or preferred. Here we are giving you a list of preferred distros for linux servers.

Gentoo

Gentoo is a highly flexible and fast distro  and based on the Portage package management system. The Gentoo developers describes itself as a meta distribution, because of its extreme customizations. Unlike a standard linux distro, the user compiles the source code locally according to their chosen configuration in Gentoo. So the user can make his system like an own Gentoo derivative.
RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux)
RHEL is known for its excellent technical support and service. It may be because it is a proprietary version. But the good fact is  it costs less than Microsoft's web server software. It has its own place in the linux server community.

Debian
Debian is a veteran in this area and of course a strict follower of the free and open source philosophies. Debian supports a wide range of computer architectures that ranges from the Intel/AMD 32-bit/64-bit to the ARM architecture. Debian uses APT package management system and its repositories contains huge numbers of packages. So one doesn't search outside for your needs.

CentOS

CentOS is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and aims to provide a free enterprise class computing platform and strives to maintain 100% binary compatibility. If you want to get all the goodness of RHEL but don't want to spend from your pocket, then CentOS is the right one for you. .But you will miss the technical support of RHEL for sure.CentOS provides technical support  mainly by the community through its official mailing lists, web forums, and chat rooms.

Slackware

Slackware is the oldest surviving Linux distribution so there are no doubts about its reliability. It counts for its stability and simplicity, using plain text files for configuration and making as few modifications to software packages as possible from upstream.

This is not the final list of best linux for servers. You read more about other distros and comment.Reply with your favourite linux distro for Web Servers.

Scientific Linux 6.3 beta 1 Officially released,Download Now

--> The first beta version of Scientific Linux 6.3 is available now, a distribution built from source packages of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and enhanced with extra applications useful in academic environments: "There should be no expectation that a 'yum' upgrade to SL 6.3 will work. A new install is the recommended method to move from 'sl6rolling'(this alpha release) and the released 'SL 6.3'. Major changes the upstream vendor made: LibreOffice - OpenOffice.org has been replaced with LibreOffice. The LibreOffice packages 'provide' the right packages to maintain compatibility for Kickstart and yum installs; Anaconda - Anaconda now alerts users to the beta status of a release when it is tagged appropriately, upstream has added this functionality and we are taking advantage of it for the beta cycle...."
